Pauline Kleber Springs

Pauline Kleber Springs was born April 16, 1890, in Pittsburg, Penn., to Henry and Caroline Kleber. Springs established the first scholarships at Coastal Carolina, the Kleber Scholarships, in the early 1960s. She was a member of the Coastal Educational Foundation from 1964 to 1980, when she was named director emeritus of the foundation.

Coastal Carolina offers three Kleber scholarships: one for students who show outstanding ability in the arts; one for outstanding students earning a Bachelor of Science degree; and one for outstanding students earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Approximately 45 Kleber scholarships are awarded annually.

She was the widow of Albert A. Springs. She died in 1982.

Springs was posthumously named an honorary founder of Coastal Carolina University in 1999.
