Employers/Internship Providers

We appreciate your willingness to partner with Coastal Carolina University in providing relevant opportunities to our students. Students complete internships in the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters with a goal of gaining meaningful experience in their chosen fields by spending time in a professional work environment related to their major.

As an internship sponsor, your organization agrees to provide a safe, structured, supervised environment where students can flourish, develop real-world experience and help your organization move forward in its daily functioning or special projects. Usually, both student and internship sponsor will receive multiple benefits from this affiliation.

Internships Essentials for Students and Employers

  • An internship is structured to benefit both student and sponsoring organization.
  • Internship site and job duties need to support the student’s major and/or career interest.
  • Interns should be able to gain a new self-awareness and build confidence in their work ability by successfully completing work assignments.
  • Interns should be given direct and specific instruction by their employer supervisor in order to facilitate learning.
  • Employers should offer interns a broad exposure to various departments and job functions within their organization.
  • Internship experiences should provide a challenging opportunity for students to develop work-related skills.

The student will be expected to enroll in an internship course related to their major and/or career interest. Most courses will require the student to work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week, and be supervised and graded by a faculty member. Some majors require students to work 30-40 hours per week over the semester in order to fulfill academic requirements

One of the University's main concerns is the welfare of its students. It is critical that a student's work activities be conducted and supervised in an established business location, office or other public place.  Students are also free to work in their own residence. The university will not approve work sites in private residences or other isolated locations.

The first step in offering an internship is to create an employer account and post your internship to our online job posting platform: http: https://coastal.joinhandshake.com.

Additionally, the university requires an internship agreement with internship employers (Memorandum Of Understanding) as part of the student internship approval process for academic credit.

The internship will be posted on our Handshake website for students to view. Interested students will apply directly to your organization. We ask that you interview desirable candidates and report your selection to the Director of Internships listed below.

In order to ascertain the student’s performance and development of work skills, we ask employer supervisors to complete an Employer Internship Evaluation at the midpoint and completion of the semester. The student will also be directed to submit a Student Evaluation of Internship and Internship Work Hours Log to their faculty supervisor.
