Programs in Communication


Communication (Bachelor of Arts)

Communication is a perfect major for students interested in all aspects of human interaction. Majors learn a mix of research approaches to studying human interaction, including observation, survey research, and experimental methods. Depending on your concentration, you can join our Journalism or Health Communication minors or any minor from across campus!

Concentrations in major:

Communication Studies  - Study communication as it relates to persuasion, culture, gender, families, activism, rhetoric, semiotics, and organizations/groups.
Health Communication  - Learn about health as it relates to popular media, relationships, and strategic campaigns.
Interactive Journalism  - Practice skills, knowledge, and ethics to report news and sports journalism for social media, websites, print, WCCU radio, and television.

Public Relations/Integrated Communication - Build knowledge and practice in public relations, advertising, persuasion, and brand strategy, including for the Teal Nation public relations firm.
Sports Communication  - Analyze and critique media messages, identities, and cultures surrounding sports and sport industries.

Journalism & Sports Media (Bachelor of Arts)

Starting in August 2023, you can join the new Journalism & Sports Media major. In this major, you learn the skills, knowledge, and ethics for now to report the news and cover sports for social media, websites, print, radio, and television. Students in Sports Journalism even get to do play-by-play for Coastal Carolina athletics teams! You can complete our Communication or Health Communication minors with this major, or choose from any other minor at Coastal Carolina!

- This major is designed for new students to begin as journalists as soon as they join the program.

- It is also designed to be easy for current Interactive Journalism students to switch from their Communication major to join this new program. If that's you, make sure to speak to your advisor about switching!

 


 

Communication (Master of Arts)

Our graduate-level program in communication offers a diverse, flexible curriculum that prepares students to lead and/or advocate for others in multiple career and academic fields.

Emphasis is on Communication Leadership and Social Change.

Minors and Certificates

Communication - Study communication as it relates to public speaking, culture, gender, families, activism, rhetoric, semiotics, and organizations/groups.
Health Communication - Learn about health as it relates to popular media, relationships, and strategic campaigns. Communication majors can choose this minor, unless in Health Communication concentration.
Journalism  - Get exposure to foundations of journalism to become more news and media literate; get introduced to WCCU radio, television, and print news. Communication majors can choose this minor, unless in Interactive Journalism concentration.
Film and Production Studies - Combines film analysis and critique with practical aspects of directing, editing, and making of films and videos. Communication majors can choose this minor.
