Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Description:

Open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are Federal Pell Grant recipients and plan to study/intern abroad, and CCU has a mentoring process for interested students. The program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints.

Boren Scholarships & Fellowships

Description:

Funding for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests: Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Boren Scholarships award up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students who are underrepresented in education abroad. Boren Fellowships award up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education. CCU has a mentoring process for interested students.

Bridging Scholarships

Description:

The Bridging Project offers scholarships to U.S. undergraduates participating in education abroad programs in Japan. Approximatey 100 awards each year assist students with the travel and living expenses of a semester or year-long program, $2,500 and $4,000 awards respectively. Applications are accepted twice a year.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals

Description:

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is a year-long fellowship to study and intern in Germany. Open to applicants in all career fields but  preference is given to students in STEM, agriculture, business, and vocational fields. Each year, the CBYX fellowship provides 75 students with the following:

  • 2 months intensive German language training 
  • 1 semester of study at a German university or university of applied sciences
  • 5-month internship with a German company in the participant’s career field
  • Transatlantic airfare, health insurance, and monthly living stipends

Prior German language knowledge preferred but not required. For additional eligibility criteria, please visit the website.

Critical Language Scholarships

Description:

Scholarships offer intensive summer language institutes in 14 critical foreign languages to include Arabic Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu. The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) program, which takes place during the summer, is a fully funded languaeg and cultural immersion for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students. CLS awardees cover approximately one academic year of university-level language coursework in seven to ten weeks, and this program is designed to meet the needs of students from a variety of language levels and academic backgrounds. CCU has a mentoring process for interested students.

Diversity Abroad Scholarships

Description:

The mission of Diversity Abroad is to ensure that students from diverse economic, educational, ethnic and social backgrounds are aware, have equal access and take advantage of the benefits and opportunities afforded through global education exchanges. Emerging Markets Development Advisers Program

Description:

This fellowship is sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and is open to current students and recent graduates of U.S.-based MBA programs as well as MA programs in international management, finance, development, and international studies. Awardees provide management assistance to various USAID-assisted entities in emerging markets and contribute to the development of emerging market countries by using knowledge of management practices to identify solutions in diverse situations.

Fulbright Student Programs

Description:

Opportunities to undertake international study, advanced research, and teaching worldwide. More than 900 awards for research/study grants in more than 140 countries and more than 1,200 awards for English language teaching assistant positions in more than 75 countries available annually. All programs require at least a bachelor’s degree to apply, but students are urged to begin the process as early as their freshman year to target their applications effectively. More than 10,000 applications received annually, so CCU has adopted a mentoring program to help student craft a competitive application.

On-campus mentoring begins during Spring semester. The on-campus deadline for final submissions is set for mid-September. Campus committee interviews of candidates occur in late September, and national deadlines for completed applications are in early October.

Rotary International Global Grants

Description:

Rotary Global Grants support graduate-level academic study abroad. Coordination with local Rotary Clubs is required, and CCU has a mentoring process for interested students. Applicants propose a research program contributing to one of the six key areas of Rotary International:

  1. water and sanitation
  2. peace and conflict prevention/resolution
  3. disease prevention and treatment
  4. maternal and child health
  5. basic education and literacy, or
  6. economic and community development

Applicants may request $30,000 - $50,000 to support their research abroad.

Deadline:

Mentoring begins in January each year. Applications are due in late May, and interviews are held district-wide for invited candidates during August.
