How to Apply for Financial Aid

Coastal Carolina University uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to award all federal and state sponsored financial aid offered at the university. It is the only application the university requires to begin the financial aid process, and a new FAFSA must be completed each academic year.

 

You are now able to submit your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. This will allow your tax information to be uploaded to your FAFSA form reducing the amount of errors.

Priority date for available funds is March 1.

We strongly encourage students and their families to read the following financial aid information below to gain a complete understanding of the financial aid process.

Students must apply for financial aid each academic year and are encouraged to begin the application process after October 1 each year at least 90 days prior to the date funds are needed. To apply for federal assistance, students must be:

  • Admitted to a degree-seeking program of study.
  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
  • Be in compliance with the Policy for Federal Aid applicants.

The FAFSA may be completed any time after October 1 for the following academic year. Some of the required information comes directly from the student's, parents', and (if applicable) spouse's federal tax returns, and any untaxed income received such as social security, child support, untaxed pension, etc.

Students who apply for financial assistance after July 1 for fall semester or after November 1 for spring semester should not expect aid to be finalized before classes begin.

Approximately two to three weeks after the online application is completed, the applicant will receive an email confirmation that their FAFSA information has been processed. At that time, the applicant will also have access to their Student Aid Report (SAR). This access will allow for the applicant to review their information and make any necessary changes.

The SAR will also relay any messages about aid eligibility from the Department of Education (ED). Read the comment section carefully to determine if any further action is required. Follow the instructions carefully. If you are unsure or do not clearly understand what your SAR is directing you to do, contact your financial aid counselor.

If Coastal Carolina University and/or the Title IV code 003451 are listed on the FAFSA, financial aid and scholarships will receive your student aid data reported electronically on the Institutions Student Information Report (ISIR).
