Welcome to Graduate Student Orientation!
Graduate Student Orientation is held every August for newly admitted graduate students. During orientation, you will have a chance to meet fellow graduate students, learn how graduate school differs from the undergraduate experience and get connected with resources to set you up for success.
Following lunch, students join their respective Colleges for more individualized orientation experiences with their colleges and programs.
Our goal, is to provide you with the tools and resources to help you succeed throughout your academic journey and beyond. Starting graduate school can be an exciting and overwhelming experience and we're here to help you navigate the transition.

Set yourself up for success.
1. Attend Graduate Student Orientation
Orientation is a great opportunity to get yourself acquainted with campus. Meet fellow graduate students and others within your department.
2. Set goals
Some people find motivation through setting one specific end goal, their “fence post,” and keep their eyes on that. Others use smaller incremental goals along the way. Whichever works best for you, set your goal(s).
3. Be organized
Find an effective system of organization that works for you. Whether is time management, working in a clean and tidy environment, creating organizational habits will help you accomplish tasks quicker and more effectively.
4. Use all the tools and resources available to you
From the Writing Center to Chant 411, Coastal has an array of student resources available. Learn about them and access those resources most helpful to you.
5. Be proactive
Take responsibility for your own success. You know what you need to succeed better than anyone else. Seek out help, communicate with faculty in your department, and the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies' own graduate student success coordinator.
6. Celebrate your wins
Pursuing an advanced degree can be a challenging journey. Take time to celebrate the little wins along the way.
