Biography

Yvonne Hernandez Friedman is originally from Phoenix, Ariz., but has spent several decades in San Diego, Calif., and calls that area "home". She has been at Coastal Carolina University since August 2022. Most recently, she was the Assistant Vice President of Student Engagement at University of Houston-Clear Lake. As Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Y oversees the areas of student engagement, the dean of students office, and student wellness and health equity.

Dr. Y is actively involved with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and is currently serving on the Student Affairs Assistant Vice President Symposium Planning Committee for 2022-23. She also maintains membership with the American Association of University Women and National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education. Dr. Y was named a 2021 MSI Aspiring Leader by the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions, a program designed to prepare the next generation of presidents of minority serving institutions. She is also a leadership coach with Academic Impressions.

Dr. Y resides in Myrtle Beach with her partner, Todd, and 6-year-old, Mason. She enjoys working out on her Peloton, reading, cooking, and learning about the wine business. She also volunteers for Lasagna Love which is an opportunity to make lasagna for families in need. Dr. Y is also a proud member of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority, Inc.
