CCU’s University Recreation and Department of Recreation and Sport Management students to host inaugural Teal Classic Pickleball Tournament

April 3, 2024

Coastal Carolina University’s University Recreation and Department of Recreation and Sport Management will host the inaugural Teal Classic Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, April 13, in the Williams-Brice Physical Education Center. The tournament is open to all ages and 3.0 to 4.0 skill levels and follows a round robin format. Men’s doubles play begins at 8 a.m., followed by women’s doubles at noon.

Participating teams can sign up here through April 5. The registration fee is $60 per team and includes an event T-shirt. There also will be a prize raffle for participants. Tournament proceeds will benefit students in the recreation and sport management program through professional development and scholarship.

By hosting its first pickleball tournament, CCU will highlight one of the fastest-growing sports in America. The event is being planned, implemented, and evaluated by students in RSM490: Program and Event Planning. The class allows students to use hands-on event planning to develop skills needed to work in the recreation and sport field. These students are future professionals who will likely pursue careers in sports tourism, which brought in $106 million to the Myrtle Beach area in 2022.
