S.C. Real Estate Hall of Fame


The South Carolina Real Estate Hall of Fame, an event put on by the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics at Coastal Carolina University, seeks to recognize and honor the legacy of top commercial real estate professionals with outstanding contributions to the South Carolina real estate community and exceptional performance in the commercial real estate industry as a whole. This is the most prestigious group of real estate professionals in the state of South Carolina. These inspirational leaders and successful business professionals include the most important players – from all facets of business – in the commercial real estate industry

2019 - Inaugural Inductees

Wilson Springs

Wilson was a Myrtle Beach native whose father founded H.B. Springs Company in 1928, which helped develop and build Pine Lakes Country Club and Ocean Forest Hotel. Wilson managed the company for more than 50 years alongside his brother Albert. He passed away on April 16, 2019. Read more here.

George Taylor

Through the 40 years he spent in real estate, Taylor was involved in the development of many communities along the South Carolina coast, including some in Hilton Head, Georgetown, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, and Myrtle Beach. He passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Read more here. 


About the S.C. Real Estate Hall of Fame

Inductees to the Hall of Fame:

  • Are recognized in a ceremony at CCU's annual Real Estate Awards event.
  • Have a plague permanently hung on the Hall of Fame wall in the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics at Coastal Carolina University.
  • Are identified on the Hall of Fame website.

Criteria

  • Consistently exceptional throughout career..
  • Outstanding business performance in the commercial real estate industry, with major contributions in the state of South Carolina.
  • Helped shape the landscapes of their towns, cities, or state and have made a true difference in their industry and communities.
  • High standard of ethics.
  • Leadership and accomplishments soar above and beyond the ordinary.
  • Responsible for successful and innovative business activities.
  • Have made major lifelong contributions to the commercial real estate industry.
  • Character, accomplishments, reputation and contributions to business, culture and the environment are all necessary ingredients for induction.

All nominees must:

  • be retired from their primary business or
  • be at least 65 years of age.

Nomination Process

Official nominations are limited to advisory board members of the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economics at Coastal Carolina University. The nomination committee is encouraged to solicit their recommendations from the real estate community and to encourage others from outside the committee to make nomination recommendations to ensure a wide variety of candidates are considered.

The Selection Committee will consider the following when making their selection of honorees:

  • Business: The nominee has made a significant contribution as a leader in the field of commercial real estate.
  • Nominees are expected to have made a significant impact in their particular area of real estate and be recognized primarily as a person that is an exceptional role model in their discipline.
  • Weight will be given to such accomplishments as starting and building a business, leading an established business to significantly greater achievements, major transactions, and innovative projects.
  • Among the factors to be considered are industry recognitions and accomplishments, being an industry pioneer and/or leader, and recognition by others for achievements.
  • Community: The nominee has concern for improving his/her community as a business leader.
  • Ethics: The nominee has displayed the highest level of ethics in their business practices.

Beyond the criteria noted here, the selection committee has the responsibility and discretionary power to make their determinations from the pool of nominations submitted.
