President - Sam Sullivan

Sam Sullivan imageI came to Coastal Carolina University in 2012, starting out in University Housing. I moved to the Office of the Registrar in 2014 and have been here ever since. I am currently the Senior Assistant Registrar for Registration and Curriculum Management where I oversee the academic schedule and course registration. Prior to CCU, I worked at Mercy College, and before that, completed my BS in Criminal Justice, MS in Secondary Education, and MS in Criminal Justice at the University of New Haven in Connecticut. I am a New York native, born and raised on Long Island.

I am currently in my final year as Staff Senate representative for Academic Initiatives and in my second term as Staff Senate President. These past three years working with Senate have been a great learning experience and wonderful professional development. Not only have I had the opportunity to work with people I wouldn’t have normally interacted with, but I have learned a lot about our institution. I started as Senate President in 2022 with a goal to make CCU a comfortable place for staff to share their concerns, understand that their issues will be heard, and to make communication more transparent. It has been challenging but fulfilling. My first year as Senate President was a learning curve, and I hope to bring what I’ve learned in 2022 to this year’s Senate. I am focusing on having effective Senate Committees that help fulfill the needs of our Senators and our general Staff body.

When I am not at work, I like to exercise and relax, and spend time at home. I have two dogs Newton and Chip who are on my level of relaxation—they are couch potatoes through and through. Other hobbies of mine include playing video games, and if it’s a nice day out, hitting up a brewery.
